Repairing Cracked Concrete Flooring

Concrete is a hard and rigid substance. So, it will inevitably crack over time, especially with Ohio’s humidity and temperature changes. Control joints and expansions joints also contribute to garage floor cracking. However, these features function as a means of preventing the cracks from spreading to the entire floor by sending them down predetermined paths.

If you see cracks forming on your floor, it is best to treat them as soon as possible even if they are small cracks. We have the experience and tools necessary for precision crack repairs and polyaspartic floor coating installations, so we can restore and protect your existing concrete flooring.

Regular Epoxy Coating vs. Dual Coating System

There are many concrete crack filler products and repair materials on the market. Epoxy is a popular DIY solution for concrete floor repair, but doesn’t offer all the benefits of our unique dual-coating solution. If you want to perform the highest quality repairs, a commercial-grade epoxy basecoat combined with a polyaspartic topcoat is ideal. In fact, the polyaspartic garage floor coating system is an OGI specialty.

We have designed our flooring system specifically for the Ohio garage environment, so it offers superior protection and longevity. Our polyaspartic coating systems are made with polyaspartic polyurea. As a result, they can defend concrete flooring from incoming hazards such as dirt, dust, mold, mildew, flooding, road salts, corrosive chemicals, and more.

Furthermore, our polyaspartic contains a crack filler compound to optimize flooring repairs.

Steps for Crack Repair and Coating System Installation

Our polyaspartic coating fills the cracks in concrete, protecting the underlying surface and giving your floor a stylish new finish.

  1. Break Away Loose Debris: We begin crack repair by chasing cracks with a hammer and cold chisel. We position the chisel in the crack and hit it with a hammer, breaking off any loose debris.
  2. Clean Debris from Cracks: Then, we clean the debris with a wire brush and vacuum out the cracks.
  3. Concrete Prep: A mechanical diamond grinding process is used to roughen the surface and prepare it to bind firmly with the polymer coating.
  4. Basecoat: The first layer of high-quality epoxy primer is poured, spread throughout the garage with a squeegee and then rolled even.
  5. Flakes: Decorative flakes are spread over the surface while the coatings are still wet. The next day, the flakes that didn’t adhere to the basecoat are scraped, broomed and vacuumed.
  6. Overnight Curing: The floor is left to cure overnight.
  7. Finish Coat: A polyaspartic topcoat is applied over the flakes and grit is applied for texture.
