Garage Floor Care and Maintenance
How to Clean Polyaspartic Floors
Important Cleaning & Maintenance Tips
No Surface Waxes: Many polyaspartic garage floor coatings have slip-resistant properties. It is crucial to refrain from using surface waxes or heavy soap-based cleaners that will leave a residue and undermine these properties.
No Corrosive Cleaners: Homeowners should also consider the pH compatibility of the floor with a specific cleaner, as an imbalance can cause corrosion of the floor. Mixing cleaners can also corrode a polyaspartic surface along with posing serious health risks. DO NOT USE cleaners that contain solvents or acids (citrus cleaners, vinegar, etc.).
Always Spot Test: Before using any cleaning product across the full surface of your floor, it is critical to spot-test the cleaner on a small area of the floor. This will show the product if the product will or will not leave a film.
Care Instructions
Please follow these simple instructions to obtain the maximum integrity of your newly installed floor coating system.
Initial Use
Before walking on the floor for the first time, be sure to test the floor by feeling it with your fingers in an inconspicuous location. Under normal circumstances, the floor can be walked on in 24 hours after completion. You can also put away lighter-weight objects such as trash cans, cabinets, etc. However, heavier items such as refrigerators and vehicles typically require an additional 36 to 48 hours (weather dependent).
When temperatures are below 50 degrees, cars and heavy objects MUST be kept off the floor for a minimum of three days.
Minor Spills & Routine Cleaning
For minor spills or vehicle drippings, simply wipe them up with a paper towel or other soft cloth. Routine maintenance cleaning is best achieved with a soft bristle broom.
Deep Cleaning
For heavy cleaning of a soiled floor, sweep away any loose debris and then saturate the floor with a diluted clear cleaning solution such as a degreaser (Greased Lightning at Home Depot). Eight ounces of a degreaser per gallon of water is all that is typically needed. Pour the mixture on the floor and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off with a hose and foam squeegee. Light power washing is acceptable.
